Ask Claudia about the personal aspect of her training and she’ll tell you it didn’t come from Notre Dame College, the University of Health Sciences of the Chicago Medical School or North Park University. It came from the example set by Arlene McGowan, a Franciscan nun and her Laboratory Manager in her first lab job. “She cared about people and was good with them,” Claudia says. “She never asked you to do something she wouldn’t do herself.” Claudia experienced firsthand the personal touch Arlene brought to her clinical work and saw the difference it made in leading others. The Heart of the Matter
Arlene’s example was easily learned by Claudia, who at age 12 had lost her mother to cancer. She developed a compassionate heart in helping raise her six younger brothers, nurturing the love of music they’d inherited from both parents while developing her own (she played both violin and piano). A great lover of animals, she’s channeled much of her compassion through membership in a variety of wildlife organizations, including the International Wildlife, Audubon and Humane Societies. Today, when she’s not busy helping her clients, Claudia enjoys spending time with her many pets as well as natural and wildlife photography.
